The RORRY CharmGo looked beautiful online, but the reason we kept it had very little to do with the color or design.
There is a very specific kind of motherhood that happens when your child reaches middle school. One day, they are holding your hand crossing your neighborhood street to the bus stop.๐๐
Somehow, they are carrying a phone, a smart watch, a Chromebook, a transit card, a school schedule, and approximately 10 other little pieces of responsibility.
And you are standing there thinking: Wait. When did you become this independent? ๐ฅบ That was me at the end of this summer.
My daughter was getting ready to start middle school, and for the first time, she would be commuting independently and carrying more technology every day than I think I owned throughout most of my childhood.
Now our children basically leave the house with a small personal electronics department. And because I am her mother, my mind did what mothersโ minds do best:
What if she forgets to charge something?
Not in a dramatic way. Just in the very realistic, middle-school way where a child remembers a viola, three notebooks, lunch, and PE clothes but somehow forgets the one thing you reminded her about twice.
That is how I ended up buying the RORRY CharmGo portable charger. And unexpectedly, it has become one of her favorite everyday things.
Sometimes the best school supplies are not the ones on the teacherโs list. They are the little things that quietly make a child feel more capable on her own.
The first thing I noticed was not the battery
I actually gasped when I opened it. I know, may be a ridiculous reaction to a power bank. But it was beautiful. The color was prettier in person than it looked online, and the finish had this soft, powdery texture that made it feel much more considered than other typical plastic chargers.
I originally bought it for practicality. The fact that it was pretty was a welcome bonus. And with tweens, that matters more than adults sometimes realize.
You can buy the most practical object on Earth, but if your child thinks it is ugly, there is a decent chance it will spend its life untouched in a drawer. This one actually made her want to carry it.
The built-in cables are the part I appreciate most
My favorite feature is that the cables are built directly into the charger. There is a built-in Lightning cable, a built-in USB-C cable, plus USB-C and USB-A ports and an integrated magnetic Apple Watch charger. RORRY says the 20,000mAh model can charge up to five devices at once.
For our family, that means one charger can cover:
- her older iPhone with Lightning
- her Chromebook through USB-C
- her Apple Watch
- other USB-C devices when needed
No loose charging cables. No digging through a school bag. No remembering the power bank but forgetting the cord – which, in my household, would absolutely happen. That simplicity is what makes it work for not only a child, but anyone. A product can have twenty impressive specifications, but if it adds five extra steps to everyday life, eventually we stop using it. This one removes steps.
One month later, it became her โbestieโ
I originally imagined this as an emergency school item. Something she would keep tucked in her backpack in case her phone or watch ran low. That is not what happened. It has been about a month now, and she takes this charger everywhere.

It has basically become her little technological security blanket. She may not use it every single day, but she likes knowing it is there. Middle school brings so many small new responsibilities at once.

A backup battery closes one of them.
It is especially useful if your family uses Apple devices
This is where I think the RORRY CharmGo becomes much more interesting than a generic power bank.
The built-in magnetic charger works with compatible Apple Watch models, while the integrated Lightning and USB-C cables cover a wide range of older and newer Apple devices. RORRY currently lists compatibility across recent iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods and iPad models.
For families who already live inside the Apple ecosystem, that can reduce the number of things you have to pack significantly.
For us, it’s been useful for:
school days โ๏ธ๐
sports tournaments ๐
family travel ๐บ
long flights โ๏ธ
theme parks ๐ข๐ก
road trips๐ฒ๐๐ฒ
and especially those days when everyone leaves the house with a device at 22%.
Can you bring it on an airplane?๐ฉ
For travel, there is an important distinction. Portable chargers and power banks must travel in your carry-on baggage, not checked luggage. The FAA allows most rechargeable lithium batteries rated up to 100 watt-hours without airline approval; larger batteries from 101โ160Wh require airline approval. Individual airlines can also impose stricter limits.
RORRY markets this model as airplane-approved.
What I Like About This Portable Charger
After a month, these are the things that matter most to us:
The built-in cables are genuinely useful.
The Apple Watch charger eliminates another cable.
The battery capacity gives us plenty of backup power.
The design is attractive enough that you actually want to carry it.
The display makes it easy to see how much battery is left.
And perhaps most importantly, my daughter has continued using it after the novelty wore off. That last part matters. There are many products that look wonderful during an unboxing video. But the better question is: Do they still remain part of your life afterward? This one did.
Would I buy it again?
Yes! In fact, after buying one for my daughter, I’m wanting one for myself. That is usually my clearest sign that a product has passed the test.
My daughter is entering a stage of life where I am slowly handing her more independence.
I can’t follow her everywhere.
I can’t remember everything for her (and probably shouldn’t).
But I can still tuck a few useful things into her backpack while she learns how to carry herself. For us, this charger became one of those things. And perhaps that is why I like it more than I expected.
It is technically just a battery. But motherhood has a funny way of turning ordinary objects into something more meaningful.
